THE ELEVATOR SHORT FILM 2 (need to add screenshots to this)

The Elevator is a short film by Greg Glienna about binary oppositions, in this case; overweight vs. slim and the healthy vs. unhealthy. This particular comedy is about a middle class man who appears to be in a situation with unwell people.

Our main character is a male, wearing a navy blue shirt and looking very well groomed which suggests his middle class status. We can also see when he goes to calculate the weight within the elevator, that he has an iPhone which shows he can afford expensive items.

Our main character also has the tendency to look down on the people in the elevator with him. The extras who are surrounding his all seem to be in relatively colourful clothing whilst he is in something plain. This makes it easy for the audience to distinguish who the main character actually is and who is being problematic to him.

The main character feels very awkward. His facial expressions show a little bit of fear when he realises the elevator has reached its full capacity which then puts him in danger.

He leaves the elevator when the elevator is approached by a very large man, which is quite funny, because at first a skinnier man is blocking the view, he realises it is blocked, and then shows the larger man coming full speed towards the doors. The man walks towards the camera without movement from the camera which makes this even more funny.

A lot of films have a certain location within their films, and this one in particular seems to be set in a hospital. I get this idea because of the health problems that we meet; being overweight and having swine flu. If it's not a hospital, its some sort of clinic.

Our protagonist is met by the people who carry swine flu. Before he realises, his facial expressions seem to lighten up, and he seems happy to not be at a weight risk to be with slimmer people. Who then start coughing in his space.

The camera then pans to outside of the lift doors showing "swine flu treatment centre".
It has quite low lighting throughout which connotes the characters feelings during the events he endures during his time in the elevator.

  1. You need to discuss the actual construction a lot more Meg - this needs to eb a textual analysis as well as a discussion of Narrative, genre and representation.

    Level 2.

  2. You seem to have completed 4 film analysis.
You have done the AS evaluation
You have completed the summer homework

You are therefore keeping up with deadlines and therefore time management is good.
Overall your work just lacks the depth for overall level 4 - you need the detail that you show in Black hole for a level 4 overall.
Therefore a level 3 at present.

Targets in main are your blog posts which need to be more inventive if you are to get into the level 4 category for the 3 elements under planning around posts.

    Well done all the same.
